The Cannage

In the early 18th century, cane work was often used in conjunction with rattan to embellish furniture such as headboards, chairs, and armchairs. It inspired iconic chairs such as the Thonet No. 14 and Marcel Breuer’s Cesca B 64.

Once forgotten, cane weaving has been experiencing a real revivalin recent years. Designers have incorporated cane weaving into a wide range of furniture and decorative items, such as lamps, mirrors, room dividers, tables, and many others. Sometimes they keep the materials in their most natural colors, which lends both elegance and serenity; other times, they dare to use bright colors to add a touch of modernity and whimsy.

  1. Simple elegance
  2. Playful colors
